Annie was found hiding in a closet in her home. She had watched while her family packed up all their belongings and drove away. She knew something was terribly wrong. She kept waiting for them to come back for her. Her food and water dishes were empty. She grew weaker by the day, alone and afraid.

When Annie was rescued by a neighbor and brought to the HUA shelter, this adorable little dog was so grateful to be held and comforted. Annie now lives in a fine adoptive home, and she will never be abandoned again.

Annie is like many dogs who have lost their homes when their families have encountered hardship. Even more so, the faltering national economy has affected puppy mills, and huge numbers of breeder dogs are being discarded because they have become a liability. Breeders are leaving dogs out to starve and freeze.
